About
A gripping thriller from the director of The Third Man 1949, Odd Man Out finds James Mason as a wounded criminal slinking through the streets of Belfast after a robbery goes disastrously wrong.
Mason’s character is a leader in ‘the Organisation’, an obvious reference to the then-active Irish Republican Army, adding a unique political tinge to proceedings. As he stumbles injured through back alleys, searching for refuge as the British police close in on his trail, he is assisted by a variety of Northern Irish locals in his increasingly tense odyssey. Reed’s sense of place and penchant for filling his frames with abundant shadows make this a darkly lush ode to a Belfast of the past.
