About
French-Senegalese director Alain Gomis weaves together strong characters and Congolese music to illustrate the tale of bar singer Félicité in this impeccably intuitive film.
Félicité is thrown into a state of emergency when her teenage son is gravely injured and she must raise the funds to pay for his treatment. The film follows the singer as she makes her way across Kinshasa to recoup money. Congolese actress Véro Tshanda Beya Mputu delivers an extraordinarily powerful performance as Félicité, whose largely wordless presence embodies not only the cost of being a sole parent struggling to get by but also a deep sense of her power and pride.
