SYNOPSIS

Looking for a Lady with Fangs and a Moustache involves a flirtation with superstition, a bold dash of mysticism, and powerful female spirits called ḍākinī who meddle in the lives of mortals. When Tenzin (Tsering Tashi Gyalthang) trespasses in the Goddess Kali’s temple and is told he has only days to live, his dreams of opening a café and becoming a musician are displaced by a haunting sense of doom that not even his life coach—an enigmatic monk with dark sunglasses, an iPad, and a penchant for Buddhist riddles—can dispel. Taiwanese cinematographer Mark Lee-Ping Bin (In the Mood for Love) mounts his camera on a scooter in the bustling streets of Kathmandu and trains it on the colourful details of fluttering prayer flags and crimson dried chillies as he follows Tenzin’s haphazard quest to break the curse. Directed by the Nepalese lama Khyentse Norbu (The Cup 1999), this quirky film reveals the enchantment of everyday life – as present within the dynamic modern milieu as it is within ancient customs or the peaceful majesty of mountains and temples.
