SYNOPSIS

Finke: There and Back is an insightful, insider perspective on the storied Finke Desert Race, the annual motorsport event in which competitors race from Alice Springs to the Finke River and then back again over two days. After honing his keen visual sensibility directing shorts and television productions – as well as shooting Warwick Thornton’s Sweet Country 2017 – Dylan River delivers this enthralling documentary study of the people drawn to this dangerous pursuit. Finke potently conveys the sense of isolation and geological treachery in these remote sections of the Northern Territory, while shedding light on the mindsets of the racers themselves.
