Sugar Spin book club: 'Position Doubtful: Mapping Landscapes and Memories' (2016)

10.30AM Thu 20 Apr 2017
QAG | Members lounge | Ticketed

Take a journey with writer and artist Kim Mahood as she returns to the land of her childhood in remote north-western Australia, where the land is timeless but the people are not. In the upheaval of cattle stations returning to traditional ownership and with the arrival of mining companies, Aboriginalart is flourishing. Mahood becomes immersed in the local arts scene and chronicles how traditional arts have changed, and how art is helping to preserve cultures facing great change themselves. Position Doubtful is an enlightening text for anyone interested in contemporary Aboriginal Australia and the links between Aboriginal art and country. Suggested by regular Book Club attendee Kerry Batchler.
