Lives of Artists Book Club: 'Battarbee and Namatjira' (2014)

10.30AM Thu 27 Sep 2018
QAG | Members lounge | Ticketed

Take a journey of discovery this season as we learn about the lives of four artists from the QAGOMA Collection.

Battarbee and Namatjira is a double biography of artists Rex Battarbee and Albert Namatjira. Moving between the artists and their backgrounds, the author portrays the two men’s personal and social difficulties while at the same time illuminating large cultural themes — the traditions and legacy of the Arrernte people, the influence of the Lutheran church, the development of anthropology and the evolution of Australian art. ‘Namatjira Story’, on display in Gallery 2 at QAG, includes paintings by both Namatjira and Battarbee, alongside works by other artists from the Namatjira School.
