Join us for an evening with Texas-based Australian writer Dominic Smith as he speaks about his new book, The Last Painting of Sara de Vos (2016). Inspired by the gaps and silences in the records of seventeenth-century female Dutch artists, it is an unforgettable story of art, forgery, beauty, love, loss and revenge. Brilliantly bridging the historical and the contemporary, Smith's work follows the story of a haunting landscape painting across three centuries and three characters: Sara de Vos, a Dutch painter of the Golden Age; Marty de Groot, a renowned patent attorney in 1950s Manhattan; and Ellie Shipley, a celebrated Australian art historian at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
