During spring the titles on the Members Book Club reading list have been selected by Ben Quilty to connect to, contextualise and discuss ideas presented in his work.
Book 2: Murder At Myall Creek (2016), Mark Tedeschi
In 1838, eleven convicts and former convicts were put on trial for the brutal murder of 28 Aboriginal men, women and children at Myall Creek in New South Wales. It would become the most serious trial of mass murder in Australia’s history and perhaps the best documented atrocity in the long, genocidal war against Aboriginal people. Tedeschi’s deeply moving account follows prosecutor and Attorney General John Hubert Plunkett, a man who arguably achieved more for modern-day civil rights in Australia than anyone else before or since.
Book 1: The Secret River (2005), Kate Grenville
Book 3: The Burial (2014), Courtney Collins
