About
Delve deeper into QAGOMA exhibitions and displays at our monthly Members lecture then catch up with friends over a two-course lunch in the GOMA Restaurant. Join curators from the Asia Pacific department, Ruha Fifita and Abigail Bernal, to discuss recent commissions and projects developed for APT10 by artists from the Philippines and the Pacific, including Tonga and Fiji. Be introduced to the work of artists from the Philippines who paint on copper or commercial rice sacks, create a loom from human hair, or handmake paper from pulped organic matter. Find out how these artists employ such materials to challenge gender specificity, express solidarity and assert the importance of identity and home. Members will learn about the distinctive pottery practice evolving in the Fijian riverside village of Nasilai; explore the resurgence of intricate ancient Tongan coconut-fibre weaving practices; and gain insight into the work of a Tonga-based arts collective making unique contributions to the development of contemporary art and arts education in the region. This session is sold out. Member event cancellation and refund policy We understand that plans change and we always do our best to accomodate cancellation requests; however, last minute cancellations significantly impact our resourcing and the costs of running our Members events. Refund and transfer requests received after this time cannot be guaranteed. For events with minimal catering costs e.g. Book Club, paid Members viewings As of February 2022, ticket holders must provide at least 2 business days' notice of cancellation to be eligible for a refund. Within 24 hours of an event date, ticketholders may request to transfer their payment to another Members event. No-shows cannot be refunded or transferred. COVID safety To comply with social distancing measures capacity at this event is limited, book early to avoid disappointment.
