About
In this short course reflecting on 'Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of the Rainbow' and 'Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images', consider the physical and emotional catharsis of painting across large- and small-scale actions in a morning of short talks and hands-on activities. Sessions include: Focus talk: Yayoi Kusama – 'My Eternal Soul' Reuben Keehan (Curator, Contemporary Asian Art, QAGOMA) introduces Kusama's 'My Eternal Soul' painting series, which she commenced in 2009 and initially intended to comprise 100 canvases. Still ongoing, the series of works in a riot of bright colours now includes more than 500 paintings, 24 of the very newest of which are featured in 'Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow'. Focus talk: Gerhard Richter and painting For more than fifty years, Gerhard Richter has proven his remarkable command of almost every style and genre of painting. From tender personal portraits to visceral overpainted photographs, romantic landscapes, and monumental abstracts. In this focus talk, delve deeper into Gerhard Richter's approach to painting with insights from David Burnett, Curator, International Art, QAGOMA. Hands-on workshop: Collage painting Break away from traditional approaches to painting and explore disassembly and reassembly in this hands-on workshop led by artist Simon Degroot (Fine Art Lecturer at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University).
