André Breton

Exquisite Corpse

About this activity
The surrealists were a group of artists and poets who loved breaking the rules of art and finding new ways to look at the world. They made some of the most powerful and imaginative art of the twentieth century. The surrealists also had fun inventing and playing games with words and pictures.

André Breton was the leader of the surrealists. In the 1920s André and the surrealists created a game called ‘Exquisite corpse’. The surrealist artists spent many evenings together playing this game and coming up with surprising images.

Why don’t you try it with your friends or family?
