We hold a selection of resources on British, European and American art, but our focal collecting areas are:
The Library collects widely on Australian art, including Indigenous Australian art, contemporary Australian art and Queensland art.
Asian and Pacific art
The Asian and Pacific resources support the Australian Centre of Asia Pacific Art (ACAPA), the research arm of the Gallery's Asian and Pacific activities.
The Library has a growing collection of some 8000 items on contemporary and modern Asian and Pacific art. The Library extensively collects exhibition catalogues, books, journals, invitations, newspaper articles, AV and ephemera about art and artists from the region.
The Library also holds recorded performances, interviews with, and talks by, artists, including those presented during the Asia Pacific Triennials of Contemporary Art. Many of these are available on QAGOMA TV.
There is also a small but growing collection of resources on historical Asian art.
The Library holds a number of Special Collections including the surrealist documentary material and the Matisse collection of rare books, from the James C Sourris, AM, Collection; The Patrick Corrigan Collection of Australian Exhibition Catalogues, The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Foundation for the Arts Collection, The Wallent Collection, The Alan Young Film Library and contemporary Indian art resources donated by Victoria Lynn.
The Queensland Art Gallery Research Library exchanges Gallery publications with similar libraries and organisations worldwide. The publications received on exchange contribute to the Library's research resources.
