This publication features the sculpture of Chinese–Australian artist Ah Xian, and includes his recent life-size cloisonné enamel body sculptures and busts in traditional lacquer work, jade and porcelain. It reveals Ah Xian’s exploration of different worlds, both physical and psychological, and a desire to embrace the traditional materials, techniques and crafts of his homeland. This book's breathtaking centrepiece, Human human – lotus, cloisonné figure 1 2000–01, is one of the most significant figurative sculptures of recent years.
Features over 70 colour illustrations, including creation of the cloisonné figure.
Published by the Queensland Art Gallery for the exhibition 'Ah Xian', 2003.
