Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship 2015 entry form

About the Scholarship

The Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship, administered by the Gallery, is an art scholarship designed to assist young artists.

The Scholarship, conducted under the Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship Trust, has been funded by a grant to the Queensland Art Gallery by Mrs Yvonne Haysom in memory of her husband, Melville Haysom, who died on 25 December 1967.

Melville Haysom was born in Melbourne on 17 August 1900 and studied art at the National Gallery School. In 1929 he came to Queensland, and in 1935 received the Godfrey Rivers Bequest Award. He was a member of the Victorian Art Society (President 1923–24), the Fellowship of Australian Artists, and a Life Member of the Royal Queensland Art Society (President 1952–55). His work is represented in the Queensland Art Gallery, the Darnell Collection of the University of Queensland and many private collections.

The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art invites applications for the Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship. Designed to promote, encourage and advance the development of visual arts in Queensland, the scholarship is offered to artists aged 25 years or under. The scholarship offers $5000 towards materials and expenses for the preparation of work for a specific project. Applicants are asked to submit for consideration a comprehensive proposal for a specific project to be funded through the award. The proposal should also:

  • State the philosophy and aims of your current art practice, clearly outlining the place the project would have within this practice;
  • Outline planned expenditure of the award should your application be successful;
  • Include supporting material in the form of digital photographs or other audio visual material.
     

Application checklist

Before proceeding with the entry form below, make sure you have the following materials ready:

  • Names and contact details of two referees who may be contacted by the Gallery when assessing your application
  • A current CV in Microsoft Word, RTF or PDF format
  • A 600 word proposal for a specific project to be funded through the award, as outlined above
  • The public URL of supporting material, in the form of images or video, saved on a shared drive such as Dropbox, Google Drive or YouSendIt.
