Cartoon-like trees made out of fluffy fabric, like the endangered Truffula forest in Dr Seuss’s The Lorax, sit white against a sky blue background in Kathy Temin’s My monument: White forest 2008. The beauty and flourish of decoration opens up a fantasy realm of excess, yet Temin’s soft materials are earthly and physical, her structures movingly wonky and fragile. The work conjures a place that is simultaneously present and absent, real and imagined.
