British Prints: Pop to the '90s

30 June – 9 December 2007 Gallery 5 & 6, QAG

This display features screenprints by British Pop artists such as Richard Hamilton, Peter Blake, Ronald Kitaj, David Hockney, Joe Tilson, Allen Jones and Eduardo Paolozzi. The large-scale work Leaners 1989 by artists Gilbert and George will also be included, as will the 1997  'Screen' portfolio of prints made by 12 London artists. This group was associated with the so-called 'young British artists' (YBAs) who attracted international attention with the 1997 exhibition 'Sensation' at the Royal Academy in London.

Join Sean Sennett, Brisbane-based singer–songwriter and Managing Editor of Brisbane’s Time Off, and David Burnett, Curator, International Art, QAG, as they explore the dynamic relationship between Pop art and music through works in ‘British Prints: Pop to the ’90s’, by artists including Gilbert & George, Peter Blake and the Young British Artists; and Derek Jarman’s film on UK band The Smiths.
