This year the Gallery’s annual Prime project, held in conjunction with National Youth Week, will take the form of an exhibition. Showcasing the work of contemporary Queensland artists aged 35 and under, ‘Prime 2005: New Art from Queensland’ will highlight the strength and diversity of current art practice in Queensland. The artists are Peter Alwast, Chris Handran, Natalya Hughes, Alasdair Macintyre, Sandra Selig, Grant Stevens, Daniel Templeman and Jemima Wyman. Works in a range of media have been commissioned for the exhibition or drawn from recent or previously unseen series.
Prime is part of the Gallery’s program of support and assistance for young artists and audiences, which includes the Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship, the ‘2005 Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art’ exhibition, Starter Space young artists exhibition program, and the New Wave program of creative and contemporary programs for tertiary students.
