Cinema A, Gallery of Modern Art 26 January 2012
Free entry

closing date: January 20 2012

Welcome to the Gallery of Modern Art's first-ever COSPLAY event, presented in conjunction with the Gallery's Drawn to Screen: Graphic novels, comics and serials film program. The Gallery's COSPLAY event celebrates the art of 'costume play' and those dedicated practitioners who work tirelessly to transform themselves into their favourite characters from page and screen.

The Gallery's COSPLAY event is open to all ages and skill levels and is focused on characters found in graphic novels, comics and serials, manga, anime, computer games, film and television. Prizes will be awarded in a range of categories to participants who have created their own costumes. Participants who have purchased existing costumes are encouraged to take part in the Runway section of the event but will not be eligible for prizes.

The COSPLAY event takes place on 26 January 2012 (Australia Day) in the Gallery of Modern Art's Australian Cinémathèque. It will be streamed online at www.qag.qld.gov.au/webcast. Photos and video footage will be available online after the event has concluded.

All participants must register online by the 20 January to participate. For more information go to the how to enter and conditions of entry pages. The Conditions of entry page also includes our props policy.

The COSPLAY event will be divided into three sections:

PREJUDGING

Open to registered participants who have made their own costumes, the prejudging allows our judges to view your creations one-on-one and discuss the details incorporated into your costumes before you walk on stage in the Runway section.

PERFORMANCE

Open to registered participants who have devised a short performance or skit to accompany their costume. This section is limited to a small number of applications so please see the details below for registration.

RUNWAY

Opened to registered participants who have selected the Prejudging and Runway or Runway only category. This is your opportunity to showcase your character and costumes on stage for all to see.
