A naïve and idealistic writer arrives in nineteenth century Paris to embrace the bohemian philosophy of love, beauty, truth and freedom. Connecting with a group of theatrical players he is swept along to Moulin Rouge, the heart of bohemian life for both rich and poor and home of the club's beautiful courtesan star. Meeting through circumstance, the two becomes entwined in a passionate romance that struggles against the obstacles of obligation and time. The third of director Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Red Curtain’ trilogy which included Strictly Ballroom (1992) and Romeo + Juliet (1996) saw Nicole Kidman fractured two ribs and injured her knee during a dance routine for the film. Kidman was required to be filmed form the waist up for many scenes to conceal her wheelchair as she healed.
