About
Falsely titled to position the film as a sequel to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead 1978 (released in Italy as Zombi), Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 makes up for its lack of narrative connection to Romero's film by eclipsing it in gruesome undead mayhem.
A young woman faces questioning after her missing father's boat drifts into New York Harbour, whereupon investigating police officers are attacked by a zombie on board. She teams up with a journalist and a curious couple to track her father down on the tropical island of Matul. They quickly become caught up with a local doctor who is desperately trying to figure out why the dead have begun rising from their graves – and how he can stop them.
Fulci was regularly dubbed the "Godfather of Gore" and his love of viscera is on full display in Zombi 2. Between the rotting bodies, the ghastly punctures, and the (in)famous shark attack, he pulled no punches in his portrayal of the decay of the living dead.
