About

In this evocative and beautifully shot film featuring mostly nonprofessional actors, Chen Sheng is a rural doctor and ex-convict who takes to the road in search of his neglected nephew, who he fears his brother has sold. Chinese director Bi Gan’s directorial debut, which premiered to acclaim at the 2015 Locarno Film Festival, swerves through his hometown, Kaili City, and announced him as a compelling new artistic voice in the international arena.
