The murder of an elderly Countess means that her valuable property by the bayside is now ready to be inherited. Driven by deadly avarice, competing sets of relatives (and a money-hungry real estate agent) plot murderous schemes to get each other out of the way. Their plans are further complicated by a group of lascivious teenagers who are camped out on the property after hearing the owner has died.
A Bay of Blood (also often known as Twitch of the Death Nerve) is a violent gorefest that marked the high-point of Bava's bloodletting – at least in terms of scale. The premise has a blackly comic edge to it that Bava embraces, without ever dipping into pure comedy. As with Blood and Black Lace 1964 did with subsequent gialli, A Bay of Blood would eventually prove to be deeply influential on future generations of slasher films. An unapologetically blood-soaked extravaganza.
